Hot dogs...a Renewable Energy Resource!

This last semester I designed and built six 3-foot long, parabolic solar collectors [link] for labs in a Physics course on Renewable Energy Resources. I had some scrap parts left (You can't just throw "good stuff" away!), so I built a hot dog cooker. I've been waiting for a nice sunny day to try it. Today was the day! From the refrigerator to 151.5 ºF in 15 minutes. Anticipation...whets the appetite.

Houston...the Eagle has landed!

One of the pair of eagles nesting in the top of a cottonwood near our house. This is on the approach end of 12R for the Airport, next to the intersection of Cedar Ave. (Hwy 77) and Hwy 62, and by a busy restaurant (5-8 Club). All that activity doesn't seem the phase them a bit. But the local crows seem to delight in harrying them. Last week, we saw the two of them together fishing, on the east side of Lake Nokomis. Now I only see one off the nest at a time. Eggs???

The only game in town!

A year and a half ago, when Mom was in the Hospital in Marshalltown, we played over 50 games of UPWORDS...I won three. Last Tuesday, we played two and I won both...but only by a very small margin. I have learned at the feet (Well...card table, actually.) of the Master.
